Is it for you?

This easy home finger-prick test is for women in their 20s looking for a general health check for their energy levels, mental wellbeing, nutritional status, and long-term health. Checking your nutritional markers, including ferritin (a measure of iron stores), active B12 and vitamin D, allows you to see whether they are linked to low energy and fatigue or contributing to anaemia. The results of this test can empower you to make informed lifestyle choices and track how diet and nutrition changes affect your overall health.

Special instructions

Please take your sample in the morning. Fasting is optional for this test. Eating fatty foods might affect the results of a small number of blood tests so we may advise a retest when you are fasted. If you are interested in your triglyceride or LDL levels, then we do recommend fasting. Do not take biotin supplements for 2 days prior to this test. If you are taking prescribed biotin you should discuss this with your doctor. You should take this test before you take any vitamin or mineral supplements. Avoid heavy exercise and eating meat-rich meals for 48 hours before your test. Do not take vitamin B12 for two weeks prior to this test. If your B12 is prescribed ask your doctor whether you should stop before testing.

From the expert

Our Women’s 20s Blood Test is an excellent choice for women in their 20s. It gives you a broad range of health insights to understand your risk of developing lifestyle-related disease and empowers you to make healthy changes to support your energy and mental health.

With this test, you can see whether you have healthy levels of ferritin (a measure of iron stores), vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Both ferritin and vitamin B12 are needed to create healthy red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body. A deficiency can leave you feeling tired, affect your mental health or lead to anaemia. This is important as some women may be more susceptible to iron deficiency anaemia due to menstrual bleeding. A vitamin D deficiency can also affect your energy levels, and many adults in the UK are deficient in vitamin D, especially throughout winter.

By testing your thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), you can check if your thyroid is functioning normally. Thyroid disease can lead to changes in weight, difficulty sleeping, mood changes and anxiety. Your liver and kidney function and cholesterol status can be affected by poor dietary choices, such as eating too much saturated fat, or drinking too much alcohol. So, your 20s are an excellent time to establish your baseline and start optimising your health for the years ahead.

Why take this test?

  • Make sure your iron stores are normal.
  • Find out your baseline liver and kidney function.
  • Assess your thyroid function, which can affect your energy.
  • Check for vitamin deficiencies that can cause tiredness and low mood.
