Everyone can be a little anxious about taking a blood test, especially if it's your first time, you are experiencing worrying symptoms, or you are worried about your health. But worry no more, we're here to help with our top tips for taking a finger-prick blood test.
Let's get started!
1. Check your kit
Before taking your test, check the contents of your kit by laying out the contents on a clean surface in front of you.
2. Hydrate well
Ensure you are well hydrated before attempting to take your test, as this can affect your blood flow. Try drinking a glass of water in the hour before you are planning to do the test.
3. Get your blood flowing.
Some activities may help to increase your blood flow, such as taking a warm shower. You could also try some gentle movement such as stretching or yoga, 10-star jumps or simply walking up and down the stairs.
4. Choose (and clean!) a finger
To collect your blood, we recommend using the side of your ring finger. After washing your hands in warm water, the alcohol wipe included in your kit can be used to clean your chosen finger.
5. Follow our simple steps.
The twelve step-by-step instructions found in your leaflet will guide you through the process of blood collection.
6. Use gravity
If your blood does not flow smoothly, standing up may help, and you could try a different finger (but use a new lancet in this case).
7. Await your results
As soon as your sample arrives at our labs, we will inform you via email. You can check the estimated turnaround time of your test on the website. Once your results are ready, we will email you and you will be able to view them on your personal online dashboard by logging into your account.
