From the expert

The Women’s 40s Blood Test is perfect for women in their 40s looking for a convenient yet thorough health check that you can carry out at home. It covers thyroid health, liver function, cholesterol status and nutritional markers. With this test, you can get the confidence to track your health and make positive changes to your lifestyle.

Checking your thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) lets you know if your thyroid gland is working effectively. Thyroid conditions are much more common in women and can cause symptoms such as tiredness, weight gain, low mood and problems with your skin and hair. Some women experience few or no symptoms, especially in the early stages.

This test also looks at your liver and kidney function and your cholesterol status. You can find out if your liver is undergoing any changes, such as fatty liver disease, which may be related to your diet or being overweight. A diet high in saturated fats or excess alcohol can also lead to raised cholesterol levels. Over time, this can cause fatty deposits to accumulate in the arteries and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Fortunately, lifestyle changes can reduce your risk.

By measuring your ferritin (a measure of iron stores), active B12 and vitamin D, you can explore causes of tiredness, fatigue, weakened immunity, and low mood. It can help you to establish whether your diet may be deficient in certain areas and how you can optimise this.

Why take this test?

  • Get a comprehensive and convenient health check-up at home.
  • Make sure your thyroid is functioning normally.
  • Check your overall liver health, often affected by diet and lifestyle choices.
  • Find out your cholesterol status related to heart disease and stroke.
