Is it for you?

The Men’s 60 Plus Blood Test is an excellent choice for men 60 and above. This easy home finger-prick blood test gives you information on your liver and kidney function and cholesterol status. Your results enable you to monitor your cardiovascular risk and give you insights to help you prevent disease caused by lifestyle factors. A nutritional screen, including ferritin, active B12 and vitamin D, can tell you if you’re meeting your dietary needs. A lack of these micronutrients can lead to low energy levels, affect your immunity, and impair bone health. Checking your testosterone level can help you investigate the causes of low libido, erectile dysfunction, low mood, and weight gain.

Special instructions

Please take your sample in the morning. Fasting is optional for this test. Eating fatty foods might affect the results of a small number of blood tests so we may advise a retest when you are fasted. If you are interested in your triglyceride or LDL levels, then we do recommend fasting. Avoid taking a finger-prick sample from a finger used to handle hormone-gels in the past 4 weeks. Do not take biotin supplements for 2 days prior to this test. If you are taking prescribed biotin you should discuss this with your doctor. You should take this test before you take any vitamin or mineral supplements. Avoid heavy exercise and eating meat-rich meals for 48 hours before your test. Do not take vitamin B12 for two weeks prior to this test. If your B12 is prescribed ask your doctor whether you should stop before testing.

From the expert

Our Men’s 60 Plus Blood Test is a great general health check-up for men aged 60 and above. It covers many important aspects of your health, including liver and kidney function, cholesterol status, testosterone levels, and vitamins and minerals necessary for bone health and immune function.

Your liver function, kidney function and cholesterol status can give you crucial insights into your overall health and risk of certain lifestyle-related diseases. For example, a diet rich in fats or alcohol can contribute to fatty liver disease and raise your cholesterol levels. High cholesterol can cause fatty deposits to accumulate in the arteries, contributing to your risk of heart disease and stroke. This risk is higher in men and increases with age. Your results can highlight ways you can reduce this risk and protect your long-term health.

A deficiency of ferritin, active B12, and vitamin D can lead to tiredness, low mood or inhibit the immune system, which can leave you more susceptible to colds and flu. Vitamin D is also required for calcium absorption in the gut and is vital for bone health and strength. These markers indicate whether your diet is meeting your body’s requirements.

Testosterone has many roles in the body; it contributes to healthy body composition, libido, mood, and energy levels. Checking your testosterone can help you investigate the causes of symptoms such as weight gain, low libido, and erectile dysfunction.

Why take this test?

  • Check your cholesterol status and assess your cardiovascular risk.
  • Assess vitamin deficiencies that may affect your energy levels and immunity.
  • Make sure your testosterone levels are normal for your age.
  • Test your vitamin D levels for bone health.
