Special instructions

Please take your sample in the morning. Fasting is optional for this test. Eating fatty foods might affect the results of a small number of blood tests so we may advise a retest when you are fasted. If you are interested in your triglyceride or LDL levels, then we do recommend fasting. Avoid taking a finger-prick sample from a finger used to handle hormone-gels in the past 4 weeks. Do not take biotin supplements for 2 days prior to this test. If you are taking prescribed biotin you should discuss this with your doctor. You should take this test before you take any vitamin or mineral supplements. Avoid heavy exercise and eating meat-rich meals for 48 hours before your test. Do not take vitamin B12 for two weeks prior to this test. If your B12 is prescribed ask your doctor whether you should stop before testing.

From the expert

The Men’s 50s Blood Test is a simple and effective way to measure your health at home. Your results will give you information about your risk of lifestyle-related disease, nutritional markers related to immunity and bone health, and testosterone hormone levels.

Looking at your liver and kidney function, as well as your cholesterol status, can help you determine your risk of lifestyle-related conditions, such as fatty liver disease. Having high cholesterol can cause your blood pressure to increase and lead to a build-up of fat in the artery walls. Over time, this causes a narrowing and increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. Some of this risk may be attributable to lifestyle factors, including diet and alcohol intake. Your findings can help you make informed decisions to reduce this risk and improve your long-term health.

Nutrition contributes to many aspects of our health, including immunity, mental wellbeing, and energy levels. This test looks at your levels of ferritin, B12 and vitamin D. Vitamin D is especially important for bone health and is used for calcium absorption in the gut and bone restructuring. It is common to be deficient in the UK. Making sure your vitamin and mineral levels are normal can help you stay happy and energised.

Testosterone plays a role in body composition, mood, and libido. Checking your testosterone levels can help you investigate symptoms such as reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, and weight gain.

Why take this test?

  • Check nutritional markers for immunity, energy levels and bone health.
  • Explore your risk of conditions such as heart disease and stroke.
  • Find out if you have signs of liver inflammation.
  • Check if your testosterone levels are normal for your age.
