Special instructions

Please take your sample in the morning. Fasting is optional for this test. Eating fatty foods might affect the results of a small number of blood tests so we may advise a retest when you are fasted. If you are interested in your triglyceride or LDL levels, then we do recommend fasting. Avoid taking a finger-prick sample from a finger used to handle hormone-gels in the past 4 weeks. Do not take biotin supplements for 2 days prior to this test. If you are taking prescribed biotin you should discuss this with your doctor. You should take this test before you take any vitamin or mineral supplements. Avoid heavy exercise and eating meat-rich meals for 48 hours before your test. Do not take vitamin B12 for two weeks prior to this test. If your B12 is prescribed ask your doctor whether you should stop before testing.

From the expert

Our Men’s 20s Blood Test covers many aspects of your health, including testosterone levels, liver and kidney function, and nutritional markers important for mood, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

Testosterone is the hormone responsible for male characteristics. It plays a role in body composition, affecting the muscle-to-fat ratio, libido, mood, and energy levels. Checking your testosterone can help you investigate causes of difficulty building muscle, weight gain, or low energy levels and mood.

Most vitamins and minerals are essential, meaning your body cannot make them, and you must get them from your diet and other sources. This test allows you to check if you are getting enough vitamin B12, vitamin D and ferritin, a measure of your iron stores. These micronutrients are vital in ensuring a healthy immune system and supporting your mental wellbeing. Vitamin B12 and ferritin are necessary to create red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body and supply your tissues with energy. Not getting enough can lead you to feel tired all the time or impact your mood.

Your liver and kidney function and cholesterol status are good baseline measurements to track. They can become abnormal due to genetic factors, disease, poor dietary choices, or excess alcohol. Now is an excellent time to establish your baseline and optimise your health for the years ahead.

Why take this test?

  • Make sure your testosterone levels are normal for your age.
  • Check nutritional markers that contribute to energy levels, immunity, and mood.
  • Confirm that your liver and kidneys are functioning normally.
  • Find out your baseline measurements which are useful to track over time.
