Magnesium (serum) Blood Test
Minerals (1 Biomarker)
From the expert
This test can tell you if your magnesium levels are normal and whether you need to be eating more foods rich in magnesium to improve your levels. Magnesium is found in fibre-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, avocados, bananas, wholemeal bread and brown rice as well as in fish and meat. Too much magnesium is often caused by over-supplementation or by taking too many antacids or milk of magnesia.
Why take this test?
- You want to check you are getting enough magnesium in your diet
- You have symptoms which you think may be caused by abnormal magnesium
- You have a condition which affects your absorption of vitamins and minerals and you want to check your magnesium status
- You take a magnesium supplement and you want to make sure your levels are optimal
