Special instructions
Do not take omeprazole, esomeprazole or other indigestion medication for two weeks before this test.
This H. pylori stool test looks to identify whether H. pylori antigens, the substances that trigger your immune system to fight infection, are present in the gastrointestinal (GI) system which can indicate an active H pylori infection. If you are taking a proton-pump inhibitor (e.g. esomeprazole, omeprazole, lansoprazole) then you should stop taking it for two weeks prior to this test.
Why take this test?
- You have gastrointestinal pain or symptoms of an ulcer
- You've tried over the counter remedies for indigestion but still have symptoms
- You know that having a peptic ulcer raises your risk of stomach cancer and you want to get a diagnosis so you can get treated
