New Year is often the time that people choose to make a change after the excess of Christmas and New Year – this year, we’ve selected three key challenges that we will be supporting in several different ways;

  • Information and advice – See our guide pages and weekly blogs for handy tips.
  • Supporting community – Interact on our dedicated social media pages.
  • Offers on blood tests which will help optimise or measure the changes you are making.

A number of the Medichecks team will also be taking these challenges and we’ll update their stories along the way.

Are you taking on a new health or fitness journey this New Year?

For the next month we challenge you to join one of the following challenges:

Challenge 1 – Go vegan for Veganuary

Last year, saw 250,000 people pledge to eliminate animal products from their diet with an anticipated 350,000 people doing the same in 2020. This year, high-profile celebrities including Deborah Meaden, Alicia Silverstone and Sir Paul McCartney are backing the campaign. We have already seen McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut launch new vegan products this January and Greggs is due to launch the vegan Steak bake after the success of it’s vegan sausage roll in 2019.

A Medichecks study of over 21,000 UK residents who had taken a Medichecks blood test shown the health benefits of a vegan diet but also identified common nutrition deficiencies – read our vegan and plant-based guide to find out more and look at how you combat those on a vegan diet.

Challenge 2 – Give up alcohol for 31 days

Dry Jan

Millions of people now go ‘dry’ in January for many reasons – a chance to ditch the hangover, reduce the waistline, boost your energy and save some serious money, while doing your body a lot of good. More importantly, it's a way to reset your relationship with alcohol and drink more healthily year-round. People who take part in a programme online, via an app or a community are twice are as likely to succeed – whether it’s through the Dry January campaign or via on going activity such as which allows you to set the length of your challenge.

You can read about the health benefits of dry January in our Medichecks blog -

Challenge 3 – Training for an event

Training Goal

Focus turns at this time of year to training for an event. Many of us are set to take on a new fitness goal, whether that’s 10K, an open swim, a trialthon, or perhaps you are simply mixing up your fitness regime.

We work with a number of athletes, including marathon runners and cyclist who use Medichecks to provide them with insights into important biomarkers to allow them to adjust their diet, training and supplementation correctly to optimise their performance.
