Herpes simplex Virus 1&2 IgM
The herpes simplex virus causes herpes, a common sexually transmitted disease that causes small blisters on the mouth or genitals. In response to a herpes infection, the body produces antibodies to fight the virus. IgM antibodies indicate an active infection.
What might a low result mean?
A negative HSV 1 and 2 IgM result shows there is no sign of any HSV infection in the blood sample.
What might a high result mean?
A positive HSV 1 and 2 IgM result is evidence of an active HSV infection in the blood sample.
