Antistaphylolysins are antibodies produced by the body in response to toxins released when staphylococcal bacteria invade the body. Measuring the levels of antistaphlolysin antibodies in the blood helps to detect or keep track of an infection.
What might a high result mean?
Elevated levels will be found in those who are either currently infected or have recently been infected by staphylococcal bacteria. These infections may be in the form of prosthetic implant infections, or chronic osteomyelitis.
